I Can’t Afford To Take Time Off For Training!

Each year new products come out or existing ones change enough that installation procedures also change.  These changes come with no fanfare or advance notice. If you do not read the directions before you start each job, you could get caught in the middle of a very high dollar claim.  It is the installer’s responsibility to be aware of the changes in product installation.  Many manufacturers offer regional training at reduced or no cost.

The old adage, “I’ve been doing this for twenty years" has become a liability and not an asset.  Twenty years experience without any updated training amounts to nothing more than one years experience twenty times.  If you do not adjust your installation techniques to match the new products, call backs are going to happen.  Just one job gone badly and you’ll find out that general liability insurance does not cover it.  Think about the damage to the reputation of your company as well.  Homeowners tend to share bad news faster than good.

What are some things you do to keep up with the rapid changes so you don't get caught in the middle?  Have you attended training?  What would it take to get you to participate and update your training?
